The Heat Is On

Greetings Supporters, Members and Friends of IBWPPI,

The heat waves in July and August have been at the center of most of our conversations. Record breaking temperatures have caused us all to wonder. Yet, July and August have also been record breaking in so many other ways. Summer travel has increased by 47% according to the US Travel Data Report. Here at IBWPPI, we launched our People to People Travel Program, giving you an opportunity to travel with us in small groups to places you may have on your bucket list, such as Ghana, Belize, Bermuda, Bahamas, Cuba, South Africa, and the list of suggestions is growing.

August is also our planning month for our participation in the largest legislative conference in the US, The Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference being held in Washington, D.C., from September 20-24, 2023. For 15 years, IBWPPI has been an active participant in this conference. We are one of the few nonprofit organizations that, for 15 years, have hosted a “standing room only,” Public Policy Forum, addressing critical needs and priorities of Black Women domestically and globally. This year our distinguished delegation of 30 Black Women Leaders, representing other organizations, stands out as we prepare to attend some of the most sought-after events of the week.

A must-attend event is IBWPPI’s own signature gala event the We See You Awards International, which began as a Southern California event and is now being held in Washington, D.C. at the prestigious Kennedy Center, on September 20, the first day of the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference. If you are going to be in Washington, D.C. during this time, go over to our website www.ibwppi.org and get more information and a ticket.

Let’s continue to turn up the heat in 2023.

In Joy,

Barbara A. Perkins, President, and Chief Executive Officer.

Congratulations to our summer intern for 2023, Paige Guidry, a high school senior studying abroad at the Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai. Paige, a Houston, Texas native has a passion for helping people and wants to pursue a career in the medical profession.

Paige is a matured, open-minded, and compassionate young woman who IBWPPI is honored to work with as we focus on building the bench of prepared Black women at home and abroad. We wish Paige well as she begins her senior year of high school and contemplates her next steps.

Joy is a Movement Are You In?

IBWPPI Joins the Joy Movement sweeping across the nation.

With so much disturbing news and challenges in our daily lives, we have decided to place Joy at the center of our work. Kindness is a part of our vision: Connecting and advocating for Black women globally through acts of kindness and public policy. This is why, President Perkins joined the Southern Black Girls Dream Conference held in Memphis, Tn., this past June. The conference aimed to bring joy to over 1300 registered guests and it sure did.

The same infectious joy was felt in Los Angeles California, when the California Black Women’s Collective hosted the first Black Girls Joy Festival on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills Campus. President Perkins was happy to be one of the Joy Ambassadors for the 300 registered girls of all ages who showed up, Major Karen Bass, Assembly Woman Tina McKinnor, and other dignitaries accepted the invitation to share in the Joy Festival.
