Congratulations to Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris

Dear Friends and Supporters of the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute,

Saturday, November 7, 2020 was a good day in America that historians will talk about for years to come. We the people cast the highest number of votes ever casted in a US Presidential Election, resulting in California, Senator Kamala Harris becoming the first woman, the first Black woman and the first woman of South Asian descent to serve as the Vice President of the United States of America.

In her acceptance remarks, she honored the women who paved the way for her, she recognized the hard work and support for her by Black Women in particular, who not only worked, but who showed up and voted for the Joe Biden/ Kamala Harris ticket. The Vice President Elect went on to say that while she may be the first in many categories, she would not be the last. She ensured that women and girls around the world were represented in her historic acceptance speech.

IBWPPI was founded almost 12 years ago, as a result of the mentorship that our beloved Dr. Dorothy I. Height provided for my co-founder, Ka Flewellen and I. I am reminded of two quotes that I would hear Dr. Height make often, “make the call and the women will show up…” She would also say, “Black Women seldom do what that want to do, but always do what they must.” This is a proud moment in our history. President Elect Joe Biden, had the courage to act on what we have been working for throughout our history in American, a fair and equal opportunity to participant in this American experience. We know our work is not done. We know that forces will try to unravel this progress and reduce it to a mere event. This is why we will celebrate this moment, take a deep breath and get back to work.

Thank you, members and friends, of IBWPPI, for seeing our collective contribution to this moment. Thank you for being onboard with us in any small way that you can. IBWPPI is dedicated to the next generation of global women leaders and committed to doing our work on a foundation of Acts of Kindness. We proudly roll up our sleeves, answer the new call to action to help heal this nation and keep the dreams of our fore mothers alive.

Join us today!

In Faith,
