Tameika Isaac Devine

Bio – Tameika Isaac Devine

Growing up in a family dedicated to public service, Tameika Isaac Devine learned early on that we all have a role to play in making our communities better—and that if you
want change, you have to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Tameika knew she wanted to make a difference, so she dedicated her life to bettering the city she loves. In
2002, Tameika ran for City Council At-Large, becoming the first African American woman to serve on the Council and the first African American to be elected at large. In her 18
years on the City Council, Tameika has planned and executed countless projects that make a real difference in people’s lives. She served as Mayor Pro Tem, using her experience as a coalition-builder and a problem-solver to deliver results for our families. As a board member of the National League of Cities, Tameika lobbied Congress and delivered $25.93 million pandemic relief money for the City of Columbia and she continues to serve NLC, the nation’s largest organization of municipal elected officials as a consultant and advisor.

In 2021, Tameika ran for mayor of the City of Columbia. While she lost by a narrow margin to become the city’s mayor, she built a diverse coalition across this city, bringing together different demographics that she is now working with to strengthen our city in her role as a community advocate.

Tameika is a proud graduate of Hampton University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. As an attorney, she practices in the areas of real estate and probate, including serving as a legal representative to those who are experiencing mental health issues. As a speaker and consultant, she serves as an advocate for women in leadership and speaks on work-life balance/integration, leadership and networking, and politics and community engagement.

Tameika and her husband Jamie are the parents of Tamia, Jade, and Jameson. Their son,
James Henry, was born into heaven in August 2014.
