Selina Mawunyo Ayivi-Tosuh was born at Akwatia, the Eastern region of Ghana. She enrolled in the Biological Sciences program at the University of Cape Coast and graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in Environmental Science. After her bachelor’s degree, she performed her mandatory national service at the Center for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine (CSRPM), now the
Center for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) in Mampong Akwapim in the Eastern Region of Ghana. By dint of hard work, she was engaged to work for an additional year on contract.
In 2011, Selina successfully won a competitive International Chinese and Ghana government-sponsored scholarship to pursue post-graduate studies at the Northeast Normal University, China. She obtained her master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2013. She returned to Ghana and worked briefly in the research industry. She then went back to China for further studies to pursue a PhD program, on the same scholarship, in the same area of study and graduated in 2021.
Selina has experience in both field and laboratory research, quality control and compliance management obtained through her work with the Research and Development Division of the
Ghana Health Service, Cybiotech Group of Companies and African Centre for Science and International Security. She has published peer-reviewed articles in the International Journal for
Biological Macromolecules. She aims to make strides in the world of science and research as well as using these skills to improve public health in her community.
Apart from science, Selina is a social team player and team leader. She has served on the board and as Head of the food ministry and the finance team of Mosaic Christian Community in
Changchun, China from 2019 to 2021. She has played key roles in the organization of seminars and retreats at church, such as sports day and singles retreat just to name a few.
