Director's Biographic Brief

Dr. Arla J. Bentley


Dr. Arla J. Bentley is the Executive Assistant to the National Secretary-Treasurer of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), which is the largest federal employee union representing 650,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas. Workers in virtually all functions of government at every federal agency depend upon AFGE for legal representation, legislative advocacy, technical expertise and informational services. In her role as Executive Assistant, she is responsible for managing a multi-million dollar budget as well as facilitating fiduciary compliance for over 1,000 affiliated with the Department of Labor (DOL) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS). She provides direct management to AFGE’s Building, Finance, and IT Departments. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, a Masters of Arts and Administration degree with a concentration in Organizational Development, and Doctorate of Philosophy Education degree with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. She currently serves as the

Treasurer of the International Black Women’s Public Policy Board and is also the North Atlantic Representative to the International Building and Properties Committee of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a member of Xi Sigma Omega Chapter that serves Upper Montgomery County in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
